The recent dog food and pet food recall that has claimed the lives of dogs across the United States as a result of eating contaminated commercial dog food tainted with aminopterin, a rat poison, and melamine, a chemical used in making plastics and fertilizer. As a result many dog owners considering homemade dog food as a safe and nutritious alternative for their dog.

In a recent news article, a law professor states that little change is anticipated ( in the dog food industry) after the current onslaught of dog food recall news and attention subsides.

The probable reason for this conclusion is that there are insufficient financial resources and manpower to effectively monitor and regulate the dog food industry. You can?t trust the dog food industry to watch out for your dog and the government is not your answer either.

This is unfortunate. The dog food industry was born in postwar America to meet a need?.the need of business interests to recycle slaughterhouse and industrial waste. This refuse had potential uses as fertilizer, landfill and such, but a more profitable horizon existed in the packaging and selling this ?junk? as food to unsuspecting dog owners. It is now a common misconception that your dog can not maintain a healthy life unless he is fed commercial dog food. Nothing could be further from the truth.

To save your dog's life, you may want to consider making your own homemade dog food. This is one of the best ways to guarantee your dog a healthy and safe diet.

Just glance at some of the regular ingredients delivered by rendering plants to commercial dog food manufacturers in the Unites States, Europe and worldwide.

? Euthanized dogs -Toxic chemicals such as Sodium Phenobarbital, the euthanizing agent injected to kill dogs daily at dog shelters. (This comes with the euthanized dog who is ground up at a rendering plant to be added to dog food. The dog may still be wearing a flea collar and be in a plastic bag when rendered )

? Blood

? Feathers

? Undeveloped eggs

? Downed, dying, diseased and dead animals (Known as the 4Ds)

? Hooves, beaks, feet and hide

And a host of other unsavory, unhealthy and toxic products that will slowly kill or euthanize your dog with every feeding.

So what?s the alternative? Well, if you are willing to spend a little time, and maybe even some money, there is a better way to feed your dog. You can halt the daily toxification, provide needed nutrition and increase your dog?s lifespan

What You Should Feed Your Dog

A variety of homemade dog food options are available for you to make your own dog food at home. Some of these include completely natural dog food diets that are currently the rage with certain dog nutrition experts such as The Bones and Raw Food,( BARF) diet also known as the Biologically Appropriate Raw Food diet.

BARF Diets typically include a variety of uncooked foods such as :

? Bones with meat flesh attached
? Organs
? Muscle
? Eggs
? Fruit
? Yogurt
? Enzymes
? Herbs
? Vegetables
? Supplements and herbs
? Cereals

As to the preferred meat, there is none. BARF proponents use beef, chicken, goat, buffalo, whatever is fresh and available.

The same philosophy seems to exist for vegetables. Again the emphasis is on freshness, availability and variety.

While anecdotal tales of remarkable results are reported daily by BARFers, some veterinarians have found that BARF diets can be deficient in certain required nutrients. The inability to qualitatively analyze each prepared meal may account for these research results.

Vegetarian Homemade Dog Food Diets

Dogs, while primarily carnivores are also actually omnivores. In the wild, 10,000 years ago, dogs would take down their prey, and eat not just the meat of the carcass but the contents of the stomach which included undigested grains, berries and grass.

This natural desire for a balanced diet suggests to many dog nutritionists that a vegetarian diet containing sufficient protein sources is desirable. The advantage of a vegetarian diet is that disease and other health related issues can be avoided as well. Additionally, the philosophical objection of vegans to killing any animal as a food source is accomplished.

Homemade Dog Food Vegetarian Diets include

? Bread
? Brown rice
? Sprouting grains
? Carrots
? Apples
? Dog biscuits
? Cottage cheese
? Eggs
? Lentils
? Baked beans

Make a Combo Homemade Dog Food Diet

? A Combo diet is in essence a blend of all philosophies and might include
? Meat
? Vegetables
? Eggs
? Brown Pasta
? Brown Rice

No matter which approach you choose for a homemade dog food diet there are a few pitfalls. One is the difficulty of preparing a properly balanced dog food diet with each batch.

The Whole Dog Journal states that a properly balanced dog food diet should include whole meat, vegetables, fruit, grain and high quality dietary fats.

Others suggest that the best alternative is to use a very high quality dog food that is natural, without preservatives, additives and the toxins that are found in many of the private and major kibble brands sold in retail outlets. These dog foods will typically cost quite a bit more than dog foods of lower quality, but guarantee a balanced diet for your dog .

If you do choose to prepare homemade dog food for your dog be certain to avoid certain foods which can be toxic and potentially fatal to your dog. These include but are not limited to avocado, raisins, grapes, and chocolate.

If the pros and cons, yin and yang, of the various approaches to making homemade dog food for your dog has your head spinning, don?t despair. I have been researching this field for years and learn something new daily that confuses me even more.

DON?T STRESS YOUR SCALP?. Avoid SOME Hair Loss!

You are most-likely aware that having Bariatric or Gastric Bypass surgery DOES cause you to experience ?some? type of hair loss as you lose the weight so rapidly. You?ve heard the rumors, and they are TRUE to the point that you WILL LOSE some hair? but you will not be bald in the least! In all of my years attending a support group, NEVER have I seen one bald person yet! So rest assured that although you DO lose ?some? hair, it won?t be all.

Let?s simplify this topic by putting it in a question/answer format:

Q: Why do we lose some hair?

A: As a pre-op person, you used to consume between 3,000 to 5,000 calories a day. But once you have the surgery, your caloric intake is drastically reduced to a mere 300-600 calories a day. This puts the body in an ?emergency? mode as it thinks something is terribly wrong, and it begins to focus ONLY on supporting the vital organs that will sustain life. Hair has never been under the category of a ?life-sustaining? organ therefore, the body puts the hair on the back-burner until it is sure that the body is going to be okay enough to again send nutrients to the hair.

Q: When does hair loss begin?

A: It normally will begin anywhere from one month after surgery and last until about 6 months after surgery. Of course, this can begin during the third month or even extend beyond the sixth month. It varies from person to person.

Q: How much hair is lost?

A: Some will jokingly tell you that they could build a cat out of all the hair they lost, but that is not true. While you will notice some handfuls come out as you wash your hair in the shower, see more than normal in your comb or hairbrush, and perhaps even see some on your pillow when you wake up in the morning — this is nothing to be alarmed over. IT WILL STOP FALLING OUT once the body begins to feel that life is ?normal? and it will trust that it?s okay to send nutrients to the hair again. Be patient and know that it DOES STOP in time.

There ARE some TIPS that will help you NOT experience so much hair loss, however?..

DO NOT wear a hat, scarf, head bands, tight barrettes, ponytail holders or anything similar that will pull or tug on the follicles of your hair. Pulling and pushing on the hair weakens it when it is already eager to fall out. Avoid these items for at least the first six months after surgery.

DO NOT stress the hair with hot treatments such as hairdryers, curling irons, or hot rollers. Stand in front of a fan to dry your hair in a hurry and use good hair jells to create some curl if you want. Sprays are okay too. Even hair color is okay IF you do it sparingly rather than the standard automatic every 6 weeks. Try to go 8 weeks in between hair coloring. Perms are a bit more stressful, though some have had success doing them. You?ll have to judge this for yourself as you evaluate this for yourself. You can always be confident in asking your hairdresser about it if you are not sure.

DO TRY a new hair style. As heavy people, we often relied on our hair?s BEST looks to draw attention away from our extra pounds. But as you are losing, people aren?t noticing your hair anymore? they are noticing the pounds falling off, which is a perfect time for you to consider totally changing your hair style IF it will help you manage it better and also keep more of it on your head. Long hair is a heaviness on the head, which does stress and pull at the hair follicles. So perhaps a shorter style would help your delicate hair stay ON the head. Just as your body is experiencing a ?makeover?, why not consider your hairstyle as well?. Especially if it will help you KEEP more hair?

DO TRY a product called NIOXIN that you can purchase from your beauty salon. It?s a three-step process of a product that helps cancer patients keep more of their hair as it falls out. It strengthens the follicles. I personally used this product, and I fully believe it helped more of my hair stay attached than what might have happened had I not used it. I noticed a remarkable difference when I used this product. And I can tell you that others also have similar testimonials on this product.

DO TRY to remember that your hair is only falling out temporarily and it will soon STOP and STAY ON again! Some people have experienced that their hair soon becomes healthier than they?ve ever had before! Sometimes the texture even changes?. Sounds FUN, huh? It can be!

BOTTOM LINE: Have a GOOD ATTITUDE about your hair? take care of it, baby it, and you?ll find that you?ll be out of that FALLING OUT Zone shortly! Today?s hairstyles ARE more relaxed, and with the right cut, you?ll look just as glamorous as a celebrity! Don?t despair?. Just know that we?re NOT a group of baldies!!!

Unwanted hair removal is on the rise big-time. Studies indicate that about eighty percent of women and a surprising fifty percent of men have unwanted hair that they'd like to get rid of. Hair removal has been around for thousands of years and in each culture you'll find varying socially acceptable amounts and areas of body hair.

People desiring hair removal all want 3 things:

1. To get rid of their unwanted hair with less pain.
2. Remove the hair without spending an arm and a leg, pun intended, (:–).
3. Diminish hair regrowth.

Now there are several processes for hair removal and each comes with its advantages, side effects and associated costs as well.

For decades, electrolysis and shaving had been the normal practice for removing hair, with the downsides being very painful and time consuming. Recently, modern techniques such as laser hair removal have given the world a better way to remove unwanted hair.

Here are the methods available for hair removal:

Temporary: Tweezing, Shaving, Epilators (mechanical and electrical), Chemical Depilatories

Dwindling Amounts Of hair: Waxing and Sugaring (tends to reduce hair growth with time)

Permanent: Electrolysis (Hair Electrology), Laser Hair Removal

Depending on the specialist involved and the type of treatment you desire, the price fluctuates.

Here's a general costs guideline associated with the most popular types of hair removal:

1. Shaving: from $1-$25 for razors and supplies. Barbers or professional shaves are about $5-$30.

2. Waxing: now more popular than sugaring will run about $25-$75 for a home use kit and around $20-$200 for professional waxing in salons depending on how much of the body is to be done.

3. Laser: generally running several thousand dollars after repeated treatments and varied according to how much of the body is to be treated.

Overview and further information on the various types of hair removal: Shaving is and may always be the quickest and most painless form of short term or temporary hair removal.

Hair removal creams like Ultra Hair Removal, Emjoi Hair Removal System and Tend Skin are available in stores and can be ordered online. But be careful while buying the products on line and consult an expert to know which product is suitable for your skin type and location of hair removal. An excellent resource for looking into scams and products is a website called www.HairFacts.com.

Epilators are good if you have delicate skin. They are compact in size, portable and easy to use. Put bluntly an epilator pulls the hair out from the root and like any of the other methods has its advantages and disadvantages.

Waxing, although temporary is the other effective way for hair removal and can easily be done in the privacy of your own home. It does have many cautions though so if your not familiar with waxing make sure to consult with a dermatologist first. For best results with waxing let the hair grow out for 2-3 weeks.

General waxing tips and guidelines:

1. Wash skin to remove any lotion and natural skin oils.

2. Let your body dry completely.

3. Test over a small area first to ensure your skin doesn't have any adverse effects.

4. Do not over heat the wax or it may burn.

5. Pain reducing gels can be used to avoid the pain.

6. The wax should be applied in the direction of hair growth.

7. Pull the wax backward from the direction of hair growth rather than pulling upward or out.

8. Wipe the skin with a moist towel to remove excess wax.

9. Use a good sunscreen lotion to avoid exposure to direct sunlight after waxing.

Laser hair removal is another way to get rid of unwanted hair permanently. These lasers destroy the pigment of the hair follicle preventing it from regrowth. It can be used to remove hair from a small area of a person?s upper lip to full body back hair for men. Blisters or reddening of skin, dark spots and bumps on skin are to be expected after a laser removal treatment, but will heal quickly with almost no cause for concern. The major downside to laser is the associated costs. Repeated visits will be needed for complete coverage. Consult a laser hair removal salon in your area for further details.

For further information to hair removal consult a dermatologist in your area or stop in and visit one of the hair removal salons, I'm sure they'll be glad to give you more information considering your a potential client.

Laser beam targeted at hair follicles to prevent new growth. Lasers produce a high-intensity ray of pure light which gives off heat energy. The laser works by sending energy into the pigment of the hair shaft, which is absorbed by the surrounding follicle. The heat generated by this process damages the follicle and stops hair production. This energy is absorbed by different body tissues, depending on the colour of the laser beam. Millions of men and women with unwanted body hair spend countless hours on temporary hair removal methods — including shaving, waxing, applying chemical depilatories, and tweezing.

Laser hair removal is an effective and proven method. Laser can be used as a medical device since it can be exactly tuned according to each patient's type of skin, guaranteeing an effective treatment. Both men and women seek laser hair removal services to have superfluous or unwanted hair removed. Hair removal is commonly done on lip, chin, ear lobe, shoulders, back, underarm, abdomen, buttocks, pubic area, bikini lines, thighs, face, neck, chest, arms, legs, hands, and toes. Laser hair removal has become a popular choice for removing unwanted hair. Laser hair removal is a technique that makes it possible to treat rapidly and in the same session a very large area of the body, for a longer period of time and gradually deteriorating the hair.

Electrolysis, while effective, often requires years of ongoing and frequently painful treatments. Electrolysis procedure uses low-level electricity to disable, or render the hair follicles inactive. Some types of skins require specific precautions or use of a specific laser. Current hair removal lasers cannot remove light or white hair. It is imperative to stay away from the sun in the weeks preceding a hair laser removal session, since tan is a contra-indication for the treatment. Laser Facial Hair Removal in women is our number one most popular procedure at Ideal Image. With facial hair removal, the most popular treatments are for chin hair removal and removal of hair on the upper lip.

Laser is attracted to dark pigment and therefore works best on pale skin and dark coarse hair. The closer you are to this combination (i.e. the lighter the skin and the more coarse and dark the hair), the better the results will generally be after proper treatments. Hair removal lasers are effective treatment for pseudofolliculitis barbae (commonly called ingrown hairs or “shaving bumps”). For darker skin patients with black hair, the long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser with a cooling tip can be safe and effective when used by an experienced practitioner. People under medication must warn their doctor since some drugs can lead to reaction to light and require postponement of the laser treatment. The area to be treated must be shaved three days before the laser hair removal session.

Advantages of Laser Hair Elimination

1. Laser hair elimination is supposed to be more secure if done in a right manner and performed by skilled specialists.

2. The majority of consumers have noticed amazing results and even permanent hair elimination.

3. The treatment of laser hair elimination can be taken on the largest portions such as the legs, back and chest in one session.

4. If there is re-growth after removing hairs by laser, this will be finer and lighter in texture as compared to before.

5. Laser hair elimination can be virtually harmless while compared with electrolysis and waxing as a sources of body hair elimination.

Disadvantages of Laser Hair Elimination

1. Scientific facts and research is yet restricted and claims cannot be completely proved.

2. Laser hair removal technique is not beneficial for red, blonde and gray hair and so many other treatments may be needed.

3. Laser hair elimination is not preferred for those persons who have skin tan or darker skin tones.

4. If laser hair elimination method is not performed properly, it may cause many skin diseases such as discoloration of skin or burning of the skin.

5. The prices of using laser hair removal treatment are very high and it can be about $500 per hair elimination method.

6. One who desires to use laser hair removal treatment should be a protected eye during the process of treatment.

Why does everyone have great long hair? It seems like it grows overnight. The downside of human hair extensions is that are usually much more expensive then the synthetic ones. Human hair extensions tend to be the preferred kind of hair extensions because they look and feel a lot more natural then the synthetic kind. For most people who come to the salons for a hair extension treatment, they usually opt to have the human hair extensions in order to achieve a natural look as compared to the synthetic type of hair extensions that actually has a different texture. Synthetic hair, on the other hand, is colored and styled before application and cannot be changed. These hair extensions can be either synthetic or natural. Synthetic hair costs much less than human hair. Many of today?s methods have been adapted from African-American stylists that weave human or synthetic hair into corn rows for a long, flowing and natural look. First, hair for extensions can be either synthetic or real human hair. The hair that is used can be synthetic or human and varies in price and quality. Hair extensions involve the attachment of human or synthetic hair to your existing hair to create a more full or long look immediately.

Hair extensions are hairpieces that can be attached to your natural hair or scalp they enhance the thickness of your hair or the length. The natural hair of Caucasians is different from that of Asians or Afro-Americans and you should choose an extension that will match your own hair. This will result in tension and additional stress at the scalp, resulting in scalp soreness and possibly your natural hair falling out. Many of today's methods are much faster and can cause less damage to the natural hair. Human hair is very heavy and the extra added weight to already damaged hair can cause the natural hair to fall out—even causing permanent hair loss. Clip-in extensions are suitable for people whose natural hair is shoulder length or longer. If you have a short haircut, but are dying for long locks, buy a wig that is similar in color to your natural hair. Hair extensions are actually in high demand at the salons nowadays wherein a lot of their clients all want to have some hair extensions added to their natural mane in order to look sophisticated and even a bit sexy. With fusion hair extensions, the extensions should be indistinguishable from your natural hair. Hair extensions can be added to your own natural hair to add length, volume, and body. The problem here is that most of the attachment methods require coating your natural hair with rather unfriendly chemicals.

With human hair extensions, wearers are not locked into a particular color or style. Such a wide variety of human hair extensions are available that stylists can easily match the color and texture of your own hair with. Hair extensions offer a simple solution to fine hair and can add a little pizzazz to thick, curly or wavy hair in any color or style.

What is your hair type and texture?

When you find a celebrity hair style that you really like, you must consider your hair texture and type. Even though you may have the same face shape as your favorite celebrity, that doesn?t mean that her hair style will work with your hair type. For example, some women cut layers into their hair only to find out later that they are unable to style the hair at all. It just falls flat, with no body. Hair texture encompasses the density, wave, movement and body of the hair. There are five basic categories of texture: Straight, Curly, Black, Fine, Chemically Treated and Coarse.

Straight Hair: This hair has no wave or curl. Straight hair typically has natural shine and body.

Curly Hair: This hair has a tighter S-shaped curl with lots of volume. Curly hair is high-maintenance and can appear dull-looking and frizzy. Help from leave-in conditioners and shine enhancers will help alleviate this problem.

Black Hair: This hair is usually dry, brittle and fine. Use of conditioning products and daily massage can gently promote health hair.

Fine Hair: This type of hair can look very lifeless soon after washing. Always use hair care products specially formulated for fine hair.

Chemically Treated: Many hair color processes can change the make up of your hair permanently. Always use shampoos/conditioners designed for colored hair. Also, check that the products contain sunscreen in them to protect your hair from damage caused by the sun.

Coarse Hair. This hair can look very wiry after shampooing. Use of leave-in conditioner to close and smooth the cuticle will help, along with regular deep-conditioning treatments.

To see what texture of hair you have, try threading one of your hairs through a sewing needle. If you have trouble threading it or the hair gets caught as you pull it through, then you have thicker hair such as curly or coarse. If the hair goes right through, then you probably have fine hair.

Hair type encompasses the condition of your scalp, the texture of your hair and how your hair reacts to the environment. There are four basic categories for hair type: Normal, Dry, Oily and Combination.

Normal: This type of hair is neither prone to oiliness or dryness.

Dry: This type of hair will look dull, lifeless and parched, even sometimes frizzy and straw-like.

Oily: This type of hair will look oily, dull and dirty along the whole hair shaft.

Combination: This type of hair will begin to show oiliness about 5-6 hours after washing, while the ends remain dry. This can be caused by the use overuse of conditioners and styling products or by humidity and pollution.

To see what type of hair you have, drop one of your hairs in a glass of water. If the hair floats, it is either oily or healthy. (Oil and water don?t mix, so oily hair will float)

If your hair sinks to the bottom, then your hair has absorbed water and is dry.

In short, your hair type and texture play a very important role in how your celebrity hair style looks. If you hair does not hold a curl, then the popular curly hair style today may not be for you unless you get a permanent. Lots of layers in the hair will require extra work and lots of styling products. Remember that celebrities don't just wake up in the morning looking the way that you see them in magazines. Many have professional hair stylists that do their hair every day. You can tell that they get their hair done since many celebrities claim that their hair stylists are their best friends. Stay tuned for Part 3, What is your lifestyle?

Male Pattern Baldness

On average, there are 90,000 to 150,000 hairs on the scalp. The hairs grow from roots called follicles. Blood vessels at the base of each follicle provide nourishment vital for hair and hair growth. Hair growth in each root occurs in a cycle independent of each other. At any time about 90 percent of the hairs on the scalp are in the growth phase, while the other 10 percent are in the resting phase. The growth phase can last an average of up to five years, after which the follicle goes into a resting phase, which can last upto four months. At the end of this phase, the hair falls out and is replaced by a new hair. This is all a perfectly normal part of the growth cycle. In fact, on a typical day, up to 150 hairs can be lost. Baldness occurs when hair is lost at an unusually high rate and hair replacement occurs at an unusually slow rate and/or when normal hairs are replaced by weaker, smaller ones.

What is Male Pattern Baldness?

Almost all cases of hair loss is the result of Male pattern baldness (or androgenetic alopecia).Male pattern baldness occurs much more frequently in men than in women.Even in mild cases It affects roughly 50 million men in the United States. Balding may begin at any age after puberty. While some types of hair loss is reversible, male pattern baldness tends to be permanent. It occurs in a very typical pattern on the scalp.Hair loss usually begins at the temples and at the top of the head toward the back, causing a receding hairline and a bald spot.Sometimes progressing further until the two sections become joined, leaving a horseshoe pattern on the sides and back of the head.Male pattern baldness progresses slowly and is not associated with any physical discomfort.

What causes male pattern baldness?

Male pattern baldness is thought to be a combination of hormonal and genetic factors.Testosterone and its more potent derivative dihydrotestosterone (DHT) are the contributimg factors of the degree of balddness. Whatever the exact causes of male pattern baldness may be, it is hereditary. A tendency toward baldness on either side of a man's family(mother or father) indicates The speed, pattern, and degree of the balding. Usually, the earlier it begins, the more severe the hair loss will be.Balding is not caused by wearing a hat,you cant regrow hair by Massaging or brushing,or excessive shampooing stimulate hair growth. These are thought to be false.Stress may contribute to a form of hair loss, but normal everyday stress does not contribute to balding

What are the treatment options for male pattern baldness?

-Herbal Shamppos

-Herbal Remedies

-Specialty Shampoos(for example Helsinki Formula)

-Wigs

-Transplants

-Medication(Propecia,Minoxidil etc)

-Home Remedies

-Others

Hair transplantation

In hair transplants, healthy live follicles are removed from a donor site on the scalp and transplanted to the balding area. The follicles are commonly taken in “plugs” of one hair to two hairs (micrografts) from the sides or back of the head and moved to the balding area, with the hairline being slowly reconstructed. Larger plugs may be used. Donor sites with full hair make transplants more successful. Some scarring may occur. Transplanted follicles are usually permanent. Synthetic hair has also been used for transplants but has been known for to have a high rate of infection and has been been banned. As with any surgical procedure, hair transplantation present certain risks. If you are considering a transplant, consult your doctor.

Wigs

A hairpiece can be custom made to cover a balding area. Hairpieces may fade and over time. It is important to clean the scalp under the hairpiece regularly.Another option is a weave, in which fake(synthetic) hair is sewn into existing hair.

This just a quick run down of what happens when most men reach a certain age. Here are a couple of sites that we have found that will educate and inform and give you everything you want to know about Male Pattern Baldness. Both men and women suffer from hair loss there is no age limit for this problem. It can start at any age. It is assumed that in men it starts at the age of early twenty, and in women it is still earlier too. And the continuous hair fall starts at the middle age.

The real problem with Hair Loss is that it is very difficult to find an appropriate remedy to cure their problem. Many have a doubt about the Products sold in the Market to recover hair loss are really effective or not. Some believe in the hair loss recovery Treatments and few do not believe in such Treatments.

Some people face hair loss due to Heredity, and they do not much chance to cure this type of hair loss as it is not due to any disease or deficiency. Hair loss based on genes has its own problem, and less chance to cure in both men and women. Hereditary hair loss can be from Parent or close relative or many close relatives who suffer some form of hair loss. Here it is the genetic based disease that carries the DNA with it. High stress and poor nutrition can also cause hair loss. In this case the reason cannot be heredity.

Modern technology has changed the attitude of people who were skeptic regarding recovery from hair loss. If the hair loss is due to heredity there was not a chance for a cure. But now we have alternatives like Hair Transplantation and as a result of advancement in technology these look very natural.

Hair is the glory of the woman. Men don?t mind having a head full of hair either. And for many of us, the loss of hair can be a traumatic experience, shaking our self-confidence and, even if in our own mind, limiting our effectiveness both personally and in business. So lets look for a natural cure for hair loss.

Hair can be an indicator of health in humans. Brittle hair can indicate a lack of vitamin B. On the other hand, brittle or dry hair can be a sign of a deficiency in essential fats. Dull hair that grows poorly indicates a zinc deficiency. And hair loss, the bane of men and women everywhere, indicates a loss or deficiency of iron, vitamin B1, vitamin C, and lysine, a basic amino acid found in proteins.

The exact causes of hair loss are still something of a mystery. While some studies have tied the loss of hair to iron deficiencies, the excess of Dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone has also been identified as a cause. Some experts have even suggested that an under-active thyroid is a possible culprit in hair loss. So is there a natural cure for hair loss?

Certain types of medication have been proven to slow down the loss of hair. These include Minoxodil and Rogaine. A second, mechanical solution is hair transplant.

Both Minoxodil and Rogaine come with significant side effects and other warnings. These side effects include an allergic reaction including difficulty in breathing, swelling of the lips, hands, or tongue, and hives. The user could also experience chest pains, an irregular or fast heartbeat, dizziness or lightheadedness or even fainting. Reactions also include itching, redness, dryness and flaking of the scalp and headaches.

Hair transplant, one of the other options, carries its own disadvantages. The procedure is painful, involving the transfer of hair follicles from the back of the head to the front, balding portion of the scalp.

One of the newest processes in hair transplant procedures is the follicular unit hair transplantation. And remember, this process doesn?t create new follicles. It simply moves the follicles from one place to another. As a result, the extent of baldness, and the amount of hair available to work will determine just what kind of results the patient can expect.

Hair transplantation is surgery involving anesthetization, cutting, sutchering and all the other elements of a real live surgery. And this includes the potential of infection, scarring, and other risks. With the risks from all these procedures it would be much better to find a natural cure for hair loss.

Of course the best thing to do is to avoid the initial loss of hair. This can be accomplished primarily by a healthy diet. Generally, the foods that are good for your body are good for your hair. This means your diet should be rich in foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, poultry, fish, and dairy products. In other words, you should eat balanced meals from what used to be called the five food groups.

Of course, this means vegetarians are somewhat more susceptible to hair loss because their diets are lacking in vitamin B12, iron, and lysine. As a result, they should take natural supplements to keep their nutritional intakes at an effective level.

As with most goals, the avoidance of hair loss can be aided with several natural supplements. By pursuing this option rather than surgery, you avoid
- Painful surgery
- The risk of infection and scarring
- The expense of surgery
- The inconvenience of surgery

However, if you have already lost your hair to male pattern baldness and want to fight back, the following supplements have been shown to be effective in treating hair loss.

- B complex
- Evening primrose oil
- Fish oil
- Kelp
- Lysine
- Multivitamins and multi-minerals
- Vitamin C

These supplements work naturally with no significant side effects to the user.
